The Black Marchesa

Lucretzia Grunchia the Black Marchesa was an early supporter of women’s lib: she had six husbands and ate the lot. When Griselda tells Boris that she is fed up with being a witch, that she will become an artist, the Black Marchesa breaks out her glass tank and threatens to send Griselda to Australia (“Anything but Australia!” moans Griselda in a panic). The Black Marchesa rebuilds Grunch Castle. She is not satisfied with the man from the local council (who had come to complain about the building of the castle without planning permission) and seeks other ways of filling the larder. When the boys learn from Snuggle that the Black Marchesa is going to wreck the train on which their father travels home from work they set out with Snuggle to save their Dad.
